OUR STORY
In May 2024, educator and visionary Dr. Emily M. Crawford submitted a proposal to spark a transformative journey across continents. Her idea was simple yet powerful: connect students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the United States with entrepreneurs in Ghana, creating a bridge of innovation, culture, and opportunity.
Selected among a competitive pool of faculty proposals, Dr. Crawford traveled to Ghana to build a partnership with the University of Ghana. What began as a research initiative quickly evolved into a dynamic, student-led enterprise—The Ghanaian Project.
This project empowers students to:
-
Design products inspired by Ghanaian culture and innovation.
-
Launch businesses that serve the HBCU community.
-
Learn international trade through real-world experience.
To support this mission, the organization Emerging Market Innovators was born. It gives students the tools and platform to sell products, reinvest in their ventures, and fund scholarships for their peers.
The Ghanaian Project is more than a business initiative—it's a movement. It teaches students how to lead, collaborate globally, and build a legacy of entrepreneurship rooted in cultural pride and academic excellence.
